Jan Arriola
Jan Arriola is currently a Ward Manager at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. He provides clinical and operational leadership at the Clinical Assessment Unit and the Royal Marsden Macmillan Hotline. His daily work involves leading shifts, incident investigations, policy making, development of competencies, roster and budget management and support to senior staff nurses, healthcare support workers and clerical team.
He finished his Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree at Filamer Christian University in 2012 where he was elected as Student Governor for the College of Nursing. He was awarded "Servant Leadership" for his dedication and service to the department. Furthermore, his team was awarded "Best Research" for their study on traditional healers' practices and he presented this research to the Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing on the National level. Moreover, he was also the Managing Editor for the Voice of Nightingale, Official Student Publication for the College of Nursing.
He qualified as a Registered Nurse in the Philippines during the December 2012 Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination. Further on his career, he moved to the United Kingdom in 2016. He has completed all the requirements and was successful in obtaining his NMC registration and worked as a Staff Nurse in Acute Medicine at London Northwest University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust where he progressed to Charge Nurse and eventually Associate Clinical Site Practitioner before leaving the Trust. He finished his Mentorship for Healthcare Professionals at University of West London and was appointed Student Lead in his previous ward.
He was featured in the NMC’s Tribute to 100 years of Professional Nursing in 2019 and became one of the speakers on the celebratory event. He completed his NHS 70 Leadership Programme with Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) on the same year. In 2020, he was featured on a film documentary "NARS" alongside other nurses in tribute to the work of filipino nurses during the pandemic. In 2021, he became a member of the International Nursing Expert Curriculum Project Working Group of FNF. He is currently the Interim Finance Officer of Philippine Nurses Association UK and has been involved with many activities to support international nurses in the UK. In his current work, he helped set up the Royal Marsden Filipino Group and he is also part of the Black & Asian Minority Ethnic Group Talent Management Support Network supported by NHS England.
He is currently pursuing his Executive Master of Science in Leadership and Management with Hult Ashridge International Business School. He has a vision and advocacy to help and inspire fellow colleagues recruited overseas to become a globally competitive nurse in the international nursing arena”
