Oliver Soriano

Hi, I’m Oliver Soriano, Associate Director of Nursing of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

I’m from the Philippines, spanning my professional nursing career for the past 29 years and has been working in the NHS for the past 23 years. I have worked as Safety Instructor at the Philippine National Red Cross- NHQ and as clinical instructor in Centro Escolar University and Far Eastern University before moving to the UK.

As a dual registered nurse (RGN/RMN) in the UK, I had the opportunity to work across different mental health clinical setting across the NHS – from inpatient wards to community settings, to A&E liaison service to crisis home treatment teams.

I’m a member of the national BME Male Nurses Network as well as on our Trust’s BME Network and our LGBTQ network.

I’m a board member of the Kings Global Health Partnership (KGHP). This has given me the opportunity to visit Somaliland (2015) and Zambia (2020) in scoping the need for mental health provision within their healthcare system.

I am also a Mental Health Expert Representative for the Royal College of Nursing (https://www.rcn.org.uk/clinical-topics/mental-health/rcn-mental-health-representatives)

I’m currently the interim Chairperson/President of the Philippine Nurses Association UK (https://www.mypnauk.org) and an advisory board member for the charity organisation Filipino Unite (https://filipinounite.com). Our organisations’ vision and mission are to provide help and support to the Philippine nursing workforce and the wider Filipino community.
